This particular orchid is a native of Belize. The plant itself has tubular shaped cones that are hollow and each cone dies after the bloom. Ants live inside the cone and collect the nectar out of the bloom and bring it back. This causes a fungus to grow inside.
Legend has it the locals of Belize would take the cone and use it as a Marijuana pipe because the fungus inside is a Hallucinogenic.

So glad you're back, thats a beautiful orchid. Sure didn't take long for them to produce blooms.
Oh lord. I see a new revenue stream for Tropics. Everyone sitting around the pool sucking on orchid pipes.
